Its combination of beauty, high performance, and competitive pricing established the model as an icon of the motoring world. The E-Type's claimed 150 mph (241 km/h) top speed, sub-7-second 0 to 60 mph (97 km/h) acceleration, unitary construction, disc brakes, rack-and-pinion steering, and independent front and rear suspension distinguished the car and spurred industry-wide changes. The E-Type employed what was, for the early 1960s, a novel design principle, with a front subframe carrying the engine, front suspension and front bodywork bolted directly to the body tub. No ladder frame chassis, as was common at the time, was needed and as such the first cars weighed only 1315 kg (2900 lb).[7] It is rumored that, on its debut on 15 March 1961[4] Enzo Ferrari called it "the most beautiful car ever made", but this statement is not fully confirmed.[8] In 2004, Sports Car International magazine placed the E-Type at number one on their list of Top Sports Cars of the 1960s The Series 1 cars essentially fall into two categories: Those made between 1961 and 1964, which had 3.8-litre engines and (on all but the very last cars) partial synchromesh transmissions; and those made between 1965 and 1967, which increased engine size and torque by around 10% to 4.2 litres, and also provided new reclining seats, an alternator in place of the dynamo, an electrical system switched to negative earth, a more reliable brake servo,[13] and other modern amenities. Styling was unchanged Series 1 Overview Also called Jaguar XK-E[32] Production March 1961–68[33][34] Body and chassis Body style 2-door fastback coupé 2-door 2+2 fastback coupé 2-door roadster Powertrain Engine 3.8 L XK I6 4.2 L XK I6 Transmission 4-speed manual; 3-speed automatic (automatic available 1966-onward, 2+2 model only) 1961-1964 Jaguar Series 1 E-Type Model Scale: 1:18 Museum Number: 18 - SL116 - 20 - 02 Material: Die-cast metal Plastic parts Star rating: ***/***** This is one of Britain's most famous cars. It has been said that the father of Ferrari stated that it was the most beautiful car in the world. So it's a shame that such a car should be made in this size, at what I consider an ugly model. It has so many things wrong, it’s hard to where to start. Its body is the main area of die-cast metal, and while it has a good shape when you have a quick look at it, but its when you look more closely at it that you see the problems. While the bonnet and boot have excellent gap clearance, the same cannot be said of the doors. When you look at the doors, you can see into the interior. On most models, the doors fit into the exterior door frame so they open and close without this problem. This is a design flaw that seems to affect only this model, the Cabriolet, while the closed coupe does not have this problem. And now the interior. What a mess. The seating is wrong with such seating as it would not appear on the real E-Type. It totally makes this a children's toy, and does not give most collectors a chance not to display it. The remaining areas like the engine are reasonably well done, with excellent detail. With the bonnet being able to be fully open, this gave the makers a chance to add detail to the engine. This they have attempted, and while some may like it, there seems to be an over use of that brown plastic colour that is the same as used on the interior. Overall, not an exciting model. I am very disappointed as this company has given collectors a classier model. I cannot score any better, a 3/5

Serving as the successor to the 359, the 379 was a conventional-cab truck configured primarily for highway use, serving as the flagship of the Peterbilt model line. During much of its production, the 379 was popular among owner-operator drivers. In line with the Kenworth W900, the 379 serves a popular basis for truck customisation. Following its 2007 discontinuation, the 379 was replaced by the Peterbilt 389, distinguished by oval headlamp clusters and a longer hood. To commemorate the end of production, the final 1000 examples of the 379 were designated Legacy Class 379. Model Description What we have here is a 1:32 scale die-cast metal with plastic parts of one of the best American Trucks. This is a model put out by Franklin Mint, and it has been known that this company has produced some high quality and detailed models of all types of vehicles. This particular model came with a refrigerated trailer which details have not been included here. The Body This model has had a great deal of work to reproduce one of America’s premier trucks. From the front bumper bar, to the rear end, you will find that not only is the quality work expected and has been achieved with this model. But also that detail so important to collectors has been done better than collectors expected. The beautiful black paint which is so flawless makes this model stand out. The rivets and bolts emphasise just how much has been achieved despite its scale. It's important to note the amount of chrome, and while some may question the amount, truckers love to personalise their vehicles. The amount of chrome used by many truckers displayed here, is a driver's pride in their truck and shows the pride they feel. The emblems and decals have been reproduced exactly, with even the smallest one readable. The window sun visor and the horns with the lights on the roof, that shows the wind spoiler on the top shows off the entire truck. This model has both doors that open, but also allows the engine bonnet to open to reveal the engine itself. Unfortunately, because of the scale, while details of the interior do give a good look into the cabin, details are surprisingly readable. The detail shows the steering column and the steering wheel in detail which includes all the levers indicating the turn signal. Gear shift as well the interior seats have been well cast. The top of the roof lifts to reveal the interior of the sleeping compartment. You can see right into the cabin. The plastics used are soft rather than the hard plastics you normally see, but even the roof section is well done to show what that extra detail can improve the quality of the model. The Engine This engine for this scale has some of the best detail seen on these scale models. With the bonnet open, the detail of this engine shows it in great detail from the radiator to the firewall. That detail continues underneath the truck as it show the underneath of the engine but also the gearbox and also the drive shaft right through to the rear axles. The engine itself is all the detail that most drivers of these heavy trucks can see. Even the details show the exhaust going from the engine to those tall twin exhausts. This also includes the air cleaners The Conclusion This is an impressive model. With such detail, it represents a model that shows the maker's skills in reproducing models for collectors looking for something special. And this is a very special model, showing all that detail, not only the outside, but also in the interior. That detail of the engine is especially special. Not many models can replicate this. I personally find very little to fault this model. Recommend it? Absolutely. If you can pick one up, do so as they are hard to find. So overall, a top model that I will with no hesitation give a 5.0 / 5.0. Robin Finlay 24/04/2023.

Click to ReturnHome WELCOME Motor GP & Rally Cars Ford Escort MK3 RS16001 Rally Ford Escort (Europe) From Wikipedia, the free encyclopaedia The Ford Escort is a small family car that was manufactured by Ford of Europe from 1968 until 2000. In total there were six generations, spread across three basic platforms beginning with the original rear-wheel drive Mk.1/Mk.2 (1968–1980), the "Erika" front wheel drive Mk.3/Mk.4 (1980–1990), and the final CE-14 Mk.5/Mk.6 (1990–2002) version. Its successor - the Ford Focus - was released in 1998, but the final generation of Escort was gradually phased out, with the panel van version ending production in 2002 in favour of the Ford Transit Connect. The Escort was frequently the best selling car in Britain during the 1980s and 1990s. A total of more than 4.1 million Escorts of all generations were sold there over a period of 33 years. Sporting models] Ford Escort RS 1600i To compete with Volkswagen's Golf GTI, a hot hatch version of the Mark III was developed – the XR3. Initially this featured a tuned version of the 1.6 L CVH engine fitted with a twin-choke Weber carburettor, uprated suspension and numerous cosmetic alterations. It lacked a five-speed transmission and fuel injection. Fuel injection finally arrived in October 1982 (creating the XR3i), eight months behind the limited edition (8,659 examples), racetrack-influenced RS 1600i. The Cologne-developed RS received a more powerful engine with 115 PS (85 kW), thanks to computerised ignition and a modified head as well as the fuel injection. Ford Escort RS Turbo Series 1 The final performance update arrived in the form of the turbocharged 132 PS (97 kW) RS Turbo model in October 1984. The RS Turbo was somewhat of a disappointment; it had been delayed several times and when it went on sale in early 1985, the chassis came in for severe criticism. Ford initially planned to build 5,000 RS Turbos, the minimum number required for homologation in Group A. However a total of 8,604 were built due to increased demand, almost all in Diamond White. Produced in both LHD and RHD, it was only marketed in a few European nations with 5,000 examples for the UK, and was only sold through official Rallye Sport dealers. They were well equipped, with the alloy wheels from the limited production RS 1600i, Recaro seats, and a viscous-coupling limited slip differential. Only three cars were finished in black; one of them built especially for Lady Diana. The Series 2 RS Turbo continued with the 1986 MKIV model. Model Description Motor Rally Racing is an increasingly popular sport. There are certain countries where this sport is as popular as many other types of sports. To watch these cars speeding down dirt roads at breathtaking speeds, sliding through corners at speeds that we mere mortals would feel utterly terrified, yet it is addictive to watch. The Body This is a 1;18 scale Ford Escort MK3 RS1600I Model made from die-cast metal and plastic parts. This model is a highly detailed model in every way. Firstly the body in this brilliant fire engine red has been done exceedingly well with no faults such as cracks or blistering. This is a hatchback with 2 doors that open wide. Both The bonnet and back window in the back also open wide to give an excellent view of the interior. All panels dit well with no excessive gaps and they all shut flush to the body. This vehicle since it is a rally car is of course fitted with extra panels such as air spoiler on the rear hatch door as well as having an air scoop in the front. There are other details that give this vehicle a more authentic look such as the front lights grill. All of the decals have been placed exactly where they should be and makes this model that much a visual one. The wheels have the steel rims with the wide tires that would be as on the original car. The Interior Very much as one would expect from this type of vehicle. Basic in that these vehicles need to have minimal items in the interior than normal vehicles, because the more of those items like the passenger and back seats would add weight which would slow it down. Too much weight means less speed, and less speed means it's not competitive. Fitted with a safety frame to protect the driver from rollovers and the additional items such as the fire extinguishers gives this model such realism. In the rear where one would have the spare tire it features a part that I am not sure of its function. But other than the racing seats, the door panels as well as the dashboard is the same as the vehicle that anyone would buy from their Ford dealership. The details of the console is remarkable with the instruments and dials also detailed. Steering wheel with all of its control switches has been done extremely well as to the scale. Overall this interior has to be one of the best I have seen. The Engine This engine would be what I call a class A engine in that the detail has been done exceptionally well. It is not often that one finds an engine with so much detail and in so many colours that you would see if you were to open the bonnet of a real version of this vehicle. Small details like the cables from the sparkplugs, the brake cylinder, air filter with all of its hoses. The actual engine has been made with just about all of its details to see, with other parts exhausts coming from the block to attaching to the rear exhaust. Looking underneath this vehicle that detail continues. The Conclusion This is a very visual model and will display well. Its attention to detail is a delight, and for myself will be a very good addition to the museum. We are intending to add other models that are the same with that incredible detail which is what this museum is all about. Attention to the smallest detail shows how much these models have changed in regards to their quality. This is what collectors want. This is a model that you can take pride in displaying and this is not just for those serious collectors, it's also something that would fit on any desk as a display, in the mancave or simply on a shelf. It stands out as a model maker's attention to detail. There is nothing I can see to fault this model and I think it would be an insult to give it anything other than a 5.0 / 5.0. The first generation Twingo (two door, front engine) debuted at the Paris Motor Show on 5 October 1992, receiving its formal market launch in continental European markets beginning in April 1993. Renault launched the second-generation Twingo (two door, front engine) in the summer of 2007 – and the third generation (four door, rear engine) debuted at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show, receiving its formal market launch in September 2014. I guess when you see it, the first thing you notice is the colour. I would say that its that colour that would be noticed at first glance. And yes, they actually were painted that colour in the actual vehicle. Its that bug-eyed headlights that in fact has that Nissan look on their small run-about at least from the front. So which came first the French or the Japanese? Still, this is an excellent model that shows that the French with their quirky designs at least make it a very interesting model. On this model, all doors and bonnet open reasonably but would have been better if they could open wider especially the bonnet. It was very hard to get a very good view of the engine that had a surprising amount of detail. But the engine was very hard to get good images, so I hope that you forgive the quality of the details. Inside the model, the interior detail was quite good, and with the roof top cover, made getting images of the interior details quite interesting. The details such as the seats and dashboard giving good detail. As well as the steering column being of a scale that showed detail of controls without being as I call it chunky, but more realistic that some models. So as a Model, it comes across as the original vehicle. Quirky looking especially from the front, but the colour? I guess everyones taste can be different. But collectable/ yes as if you consider the thousands of brands and models made, this is one that the museum likes as it shows the many different looks that one gets from the makers of our modern vehicles. But for detail and quality, 4.5/5.0. Robin Finlay. 13/09/2022. Visit robinsmodelcarsinternetmuseum.net for more! Previous Next

< Back Porsche 911 GT3 RS Porsche 911 GT3 From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia The Porsche 911 GT3 is a high-performance homologation model of the Porsche 911 sports car. It is a line of high-performance models, which began with the 1973 911 Carrera RS. The GT3 has had a successful racing career in the one-make national and regional Porsche Carrera Cup and GT3 Cup Challenge series, as well as the international Porsche Supercup supporting the FIA Formula 1 World Championship. Porsche 911 GT3 Porsche 992 GT3 Overview Manufacturer Porsche Production 1999–present Assembly Germany: Zuffenhausen (Zuffenhausen Porsche); Flacht (Motorsport Centre Flacht)[1] Body and chassis Class Sports car (S) Body style 2-door coupé Layout Rear-engine, rear-wheel-drive Related Porsche 911 GT2 Chronology Predecessor Porsche 911 Carrera RS (993) 996.1 GT3 The "GT3" nameplate was introduced in 1999 as part of the first generation of the Porsche 996 model range (commonly known as 996.1) as a homologation model for the cars entered in the FIA GT3 cup. As with Porsche's previous 911 RS models, the 996 GT3 was focused on racing, and so was devoid of items that added unnecessary weight to the car. Sound deadening was almost completely removed, as were the rear seats, rear loud speakers, sunroof, and air conditioning, although automatic air conditioning and CD/radio became no-cost optional add-ons. The engine of the 996 GT3 set it apart from most of the other 996 models, although it shared the same basic design of the standard so-called "integrated dry sump" flat-six engine. The engine is naturally aspirated and based on the unit used in the 962 and 911 GT1 race cars. That engine was known as the 'Mezger' engine, after its designer Hans Mezger. The engine uses the original air-cooled 911's versatile dry-sump crankcase, with an external oil reservoir. The 996 GT3 has 360 PS (265 kW; 355 hp), compared to the 300 PS (221 kW; 296 hp) of the standard 996. In GT3 configuration, this so-called "split" crankcase (meaning the parting line of crankcase is on the crankshaft centreline) uses, instead of a fan and finned cylinders, separate water jackets added onto each side of the crankcase to cool banks of three cylinders with water pumped through a radiator. Thus, the GT3 engine is very similar to the completely water-cooled 962 racing car's engine, which is based on the same crankcase. The 962 differs, however, by using six individual cylinder heads while the GT1/GT3, like the air and water-cooled 959, uses two cylinder heads, each covering a bank of three cylinders. The GT3 engine could thus also be thought of as similar to a 959 engine, but with water-cooled cylinders. Up to early model year 2004 996 GT3 production, the basic casting used for the crankcase of the GT3 was the same as the air-cooled engine. The "964" casting number was visible on the bottom of the crankcase, and on areas normally machined in air-cooled applications, but not in water-cooled ones. The crankcase casting was changed in mid-2004 to a "996" casting number crankcase to eliminate these external air-cooled remnants, but internally it was the same. Because the 911 air-cooled crankcase uses the Porsche 356 engine to transmission mounting flange configuration, the 996 GT3 used a 6-speed manual gearbox also of air-cooled 911 heritage. This gearbox has interchangeable gear ratios and is more durable making it more suitable for racing than the standard type 996 gearbox. To bring the vehicle's track-prowess to the maximum level, Porsche endowed the GT3 with enlarged brakes, a lowered, re-tuned suspension system, lighter-weight wheels and a new front bumper with matched rear spoiler to help increase downforce, thereby increasing grip. Porsche offered a no-cost option for the GT3 called the 'Clubsport' package. This option replaced the standard electrically adjustable leather front seats with manually adjustable racing bucket seats finished in fire-retardant fabric, single mass flywheel, bolt-in half-roll cage, 6-point drivers racing harness (also replacing the standard side airbags), fire extinguisher (mounted in the front passenger footwell) and preparation for a battery master switch. The Clubsport option was never offered to US customers, ostensibly due to the additional DOT crash testing that would have been required to allow US sales. 18 - SP114 - 20 - 02 Previous Next
